March 4, 2020, 6-8:30pm  | Mastering Difficult Conversations | DonorsChoose MANDATORY

Even when we’re surrounded with talented, likeable people, we can find ourselves occasionally annoyed or disappointed by the things they say or do. Sometimes the grievances are small and specific – a thoughtless comment or an unanswered email. Sometimes they’re bigger. Perhaps we fall into an argument that gets in the way of progress, or we work with someone who repeatedly fails to follow through on their commitments. When interpersonal tensions bubble to the surface like this, it’s unlikely that we can control the whole situation – we’re only one side of the equation after all. But if we can better understand the typical causes of “bad” behavior, we can be a lot smarter in how we choose to react – and that can make all the difference to our ability to reduce and resolve tense situations. This workshop will be led by Carrie Weaver.

May 26, 2020, 6-7:30pm  | The practice of “self-care” with Nicole Nevarez  | Zoom

“Self Care” is a term that has become part of our cultural jargon and we often think of it as how we care for our external selves. What if self care is something much deeper? A practice in nourishing your own strength, confidence, and capacity to be kind to yourself and in turn others. As women, this can be a very hard sell as we are inclined and conditioned to focus on others more than ourselves. In this session, Fellows will explore how together we can shift our focus inward and access concepts and tools that will allow us to be our best selves for ourselves first and consequently show up more fully for others. This session will be lead by Nicole Nevarez.
