Women inPower Fellows receive access to a series of exclusive programs throughout the year.  We ask that Fellows attend one core event per month.  Below are the programs we have in the works for 2021.  Please note – these dates and events are subject to change.

January 14, 2021, 5-6:30pm  |  Women inPower Introductory Session  |  Zoom MANDATORY

The introductory session will allow 2021 Fellows to meet one another virtually, discuss program expectations, and learn more about mentorship.

January 26, 2021, 4-6pm  | Value Setting Workshop | Zoom MANDATORY

This workshop will lay the groundwork for how the Fellows will collaborate through the Women inPower Fellowship. The workshop will give everyone the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss personal goals and leadership values. This session will be led by advisor to the program, Kippy Joseph.

Our Mentor Matching event allows 2021 Fellows and Mentors to meet and begin the Mentor selection process.

The Sounding Board event is an opportunity for Fellows to discuss specific challenges in the workplace, provide feedback on the fellowship, and discuss issues related to the Fellowship’s themes.

March 17, 2021, 6:30-8:30pm  | Collaboration + Leadership Visioning | Zoom MANDATORY

To enhance our leadership, the first step is building awareness of ourselves and the second step is developing our leadership vision — what kind of leader am I, what kind of leader do I wish to be, what are the steps I must take to achieve my leadership vision? This session will explore these questions, starting with understanding your preferences using a whole brain thinking framework (the Neethling Brain Instrument™). This session will be conducted by Muriel Watkins.

March 30, 2021, 5-6pm  | Maximizing Your Philanthropic Impact: Nonprofit Board Engagement and Giving | Zoom MANDATORY

Join the WiP community for a conversation on nonprofit board service, engagement and maximizing your philanthropic impact. We’ll dive into the ins and outs of board engagement and zoom out on the state of philanthropy today. The evening will feature a panel conversation between Pamay Bassey and Sunny Bates. Moderated by Shiri Sandler.

April 15, 2021, 5-6:30pm  | Becoming an Inclusive Leader | Zoom MANDATORY

This 90 min discussion with Lenore Champagne Beirne, Founder + CEO of Bright Ventures is for leaders who are creating inclusion inside of companies. This discussion will guide leaders on:

+ Defining what an inclusive company looks and feels like

+ Identifying and practicing key skills for Inclusive Leadership

+ Bringing your company together around inclusive innovation opportunities

Attendees will participate through facilitated exercises and Q+A.

April 27, 2021, 7-8:30pm  | WiP Conversation: Feminism & Power | Zoom MANDATORY

Facilitated conversation led by 2020 Alums Rakeen Mabud and Friederike Schüür and 2021 Fellow Lilia Toson, centering on how we define feminism and power for ourselves, and how feminism and power often defines us.

May 20, 2021, 6:30-8pm  | Defining Your Next Career Chapter | Zoom MANDATORY

This workshop will build upon values defined, lessons learned and community built to give shape to fellows’ vision for the next chapter of their careers. This interactive workshop will parter fellows to reflect and articulate what they’ve learned thus far. With that clarity, fellows will craft a pragmatic action plan to step into the next phase of leadership within their careers. This session will focus on goal setting, developing self-awareness and accountability. The session will be led by Ami Watkin, Co-Founder of Integrated Hustle.

May 27, 2021, 5:00-6pm  | CEO Conversation with Beth Brooke | Zoom MANDATORY

An informal, off-the-record leadership conversation with Beth Brooke, former Global Vice Chair, Public Policy at Ernst & Young and member of EY’s Global Board. Key themes explored will be authentic leadership, creating a truly inclusive workspace, and building executive skills and presence. The session will be moderated by Aamina Awan Kahn, Chief Partnerships Officer for the U.S. Department of the State and 2020 WiP Alum, and will include and open Q&A.

June 21, 2021, 5:30-7pm  | New Power Session | Zoom MANDATORY

The concept of “new power” has been named by CNN as one of ten ideas that can change the world. Originally laid out as the Big Idea in Harvard Business Reviewand subsequent TED talk and now in a book released in 2018, New Power (https://thisisnewpower.com/) offers a frame to understand the distributed and participatory models that are rising in business, life and society. New power lays out a practical framework for understanding how power is shifting: who has it, how it is shared, where it is heading – and how some major players are co-opting these new forms of participation. This workshop will dive into the concepts of New Power and how they are applicable to the current moment. The session will be led by Henry Timms (CEO, Lincoln Center), and co-facilitated by Komal Bajaj (2017 WiP alum and current mentor).

July 13, 2021, 6:30-8pm  | Personal Branding with Callie Schweitzer | Zoom MANDATORY

Led by former Fellow and LinkedIn’s Senior Editor of Marketing, Callie Schweitzer, this session is a masterclass in strengthening your elevator pitch and how you present and position yourself in the job market and at work. This workshop includes tips for cold outreach, networking and how to take your resume and LinkedIn to the next level.

Building on learnings from the Personal Branding with Callie Schweitzer session, this event will be a chance to workshop your resume, CV, or LinkedIn with peers in the cohort.

August 12, 2021, 6:30-8:30pm  | Mastering Difficult Conversations with Elaine Lin Hering | Zoom MANDATORY

Negotiating for resources. Giving feedback. Navigating conflict. Generating support for your idea. We face difficult conversations every day at work—handling them well is integral to our success. Based on the book Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most (Penguin 2000), we offer a framework for understanding why some of our most important conversations are so hard, examining the common mistakes we all make, and provide a step-by-step method for handling them with less anxiety and better results.

Through interactive exercises, relatable stories, and small and large group discussion, we introduce tools and frameworks to:

+ Unpack the underlying structure of difficult conversations

+ Increase understanding when parties see things differently

+ Navigate strong emotions (yours and theirs)

+ Speak up with clarity and impact

The Sounding Board event is an opportunity for Fellows to discuss specific challenges in the workplace, provide feedback on the fellowship, and discuss issues related to the Fellowship’s themes.

Description: Self-care is such a buzzword that it’s almost lost its meaning. Face masks are #selfcare. Eating a piece of chocolate cake is #selfcare, but we’re all still wondering what it actually means to care for ourselves. In this 90 minute workshop led by Taylor Elyse Morrison, founder of Inner Workout, you’ll learn how to take self-care beyond the hashtags and meaningfully and sustainably integrate it into your daily life by:

+ Establishing a supportive definition of self-care

+ Learning to build tour own self-care “toolkit”

+ And understanding how to build practices tailored to your own need

Wendy Chow (General Counsel at Cityblock) holds negotiation workshops and 1-on-1 trainings with women at different stages in their careers. The goal of this interactive workshop is for everyone to walk away with strong next steps to prepare for any kind of career negotiation.

Whether you are 25 or 55, having a personal brand is necessary. Tom Peters was one of the first to explore the significance of personal branding in an article he wrote for Fast Company in the 1990s. Once primarily used by Silicon Valley CEOs, branding has evolved into a tool used by professionals, regardless of their industry or career level, to highlight and distinguish themselves within a highly competitive global and domestic business market.

Led by Jennefer Witter, CEO and founder of The Boreland Group Inc, this presentation will provide the seven steps needed to create a brand.

Whatever your book dream might be it’s entirely possible that it could become a reality. Join Sarah Russo, publishing and promotional consultant, for an overview of the mysterious and ever elusive process of publishing a book. From the first stages of writing a proposal, to finding the right people to support you through writing and representation, to working with your publisher, we’ll go through a broad strokes overview of all of it and give you time to ask your questions from whatever stage of the process you might be in.
