You are the CEO of YOU, Inc. Whether you are an established executive or an emerging talent, no one will care more than you about your career advancement. February 6, 2018, 7pm  |  Master Classes for Business Success: The Fine Art of Networking with Jennefer Witter | 92Y

Networking starts way before you exchange business cards. How to you initially approach your networking contact? Traditionally, by going to events, or the non-traditional route of virtual networking (using social media as a networking platform)? How and when do you make the ask — without seeming boorish? How often should you follow up? And the question that is on most people’s minds — how do you start a conversation with someone you don’t know? This workshop will provide pointers and exercises to strengthen your networking skills. You’ll leave the class empowered and ready for your next networking event. Full description here.

March 6, 2018, 5:30pm|  Mastering Difficult Conversations with Caroline Webb | Metis (part of Kaplan Test Prep) MANDATORY

Even when we’re surrounded with talented, likeable people, we can find ourselves occasionally annoyed or disappointed by the things they say or do. Sometimes the grievances are small and specific – a thoughtless comment or an unanswered email. Sometimes they’re bigger. Perhaps we fall into an argument that gets in the way of progress, or we work with someone who repeatedly fails to follow through on their commitments. When interpersonal tensions bubble to the surface like this, it’s unlikely that we can control the whole situation – we’re only one side of the equation after all. But if we can better understand the typical causes of “bad” behavior, we can be a lot smarter in how we choose to react – and that can make all the difference to our ability to reduce and resolve tense situations. This workshop will be led by Caroline Webb, Sevenshift CEO and Senior Adviser to McKinsey & Company. (Fellows will receive copies of Caroline’s book at the workshop.)

New power lays out a practical framework for understanding how power is shifting: who has it, how it is shared, where it is heading – and how some major players are co-opting these new forms of participation.
